Mi hermano estuvo con nosotros el fin de semana. Con él y unos amigos, fuimos a Darien Lake, como a dos horas y media al oeste de Ithaca.

» The New Pornographers & Rachael Sage
A few weeks ago I finally had the chance to see The New Pornographers at the Ithaca State Theatre, with Okkervil River as the opening act (Myspace; Wikipedia). The two, of course, kicked ass. I did have a problem with the sound. I wish that the music had been a bit lower because it was drowning out the vocals.

And then, tonight, Rachael Sage (Myspace; Wikipedia) comes to town! She'll be playing at Felicia's Atomic Lounge. We saw Rachael last year in Binghamton. This time she's promoting a new album. Should be fun.

» Taj Mahal Trio & The Blues
Blues musician Taj Mahal (Wikipedia) was in town last night at the Ithaca State Theater and we had tickets. During the hour and a half of music, the Taj Mahal Trio treated us to a good selection of blues. Some songs were instrumentals and some were performed in the classic blues style. A few of them, however, included the banjo, which was quite a crowd pleaser.

» Neko Case Live!
Last weekend we had the chance to see Neko Case (Myspace; Wikipedia) live at The State Theater.
I first heard of Neko Case because of her association with The New Pornographers and wanted to hear what her solo work was like so I bought her latest album, Fox Confessor which I have enjoyed. Many articles refer to her style as "alternative country" but in my opinion there doesn't seem to be much of that, at least on her latest release. Rather, it's more of an alternative-ish, very lightly countrified blues with a dash of rock.
I enjoyed her performance though I thought that some of the arrangements were too similar and a couple of the songs did not showcase the full potential of her repertoire. That said, I will continue to listen to her music and would not pass another opportunity to see her again.

Creo que fue por error :-) Aun asi, estoy saliendo para dictar mi 1ra clase de Java a los chicos del Instituto IDAT en Ica.
No soy fanático de Javita, pero bueno... la oportunidad se dió, y la idea de ser docente siempre me ha agradado. Asi que ph33r my l33t t34ching sk1||z, teh Great Teacher Oliver is on teh way :)

» Etimología de "drmad"
No recuerdo cuando me auto-nombré "drmad". Antes me solia llamar "The Prog". La referencia más antigua de ese nick es de marzo de 1995. Creo que el cambio sucedió cuando estudié en el Instituto "Catalina Buendia de Pecho". Todo cambió para mi en ese lugar :-) Entonces me hacia llamar "Dr. Mad". El tiempo pasa, las ideas cambian, y me dejó de gustar el "Dr.", por que era muy cliché. Entonces mi nick cambió a la forma que ahora tiene: "drmad".
"drmad" no tiene significado. Son 5 letras aleatoreas juntas, que por casualidad las primeras 2 dice "dr", y las últimas 3 dicen "mad" :-) Algunos amigos me llaman "doctor", otros (como mi amigo y profesor, Enrique Cuba) me dicen simplemente "mad" :-) Pero "drmad" es "drmad": una sola palabra de 5 letras, en minusculas.
Espero que esto satisfaga a algunos curiosos :)

» The New Pornographers
For the last week I've been indulging in the intoxicating indie rock/pop sound of The New Pornographers (MySpace; wikipedia). So far I have only thoroughly listened to their latest album ("Challengers"), particularly the tracks All The Old Showstoppers (my favorite so far), Challengers, Failsafe and Go Places.
I have also purchased the other three albums, which apparently are just as good or better according to the various reviews I've read. It's been a while since I've found such enjoyably satisfying work.
How did I discover NTP? Thanks to the local college radio station, WICB 91.7FM from Ithaca College.
I hope that I can see them live one day.

La última memeada en Chicha Planet:
1. En 3ro de secundaria tuve una nota final del año de 09 en Lenguaje. O sea, me reprobaron. Tuve que dar un examen en marzo del siguiente año.
2. Se me hace muy difícil ordenar algo, desde mi oficina, hasta mi vida.
3. Aún tengo dificultad para comer frutas con pepas, o carne con hueso. Gracias, abuelita :)
4. Siempre quise que alguien me regalara una almohada bonita. Hasta ahora.
5. Me encantaría participar en un grupo de coreografía de baile.
6. Mi personalidad oculta, la que está ahí en caso que la actual falle, se parece a Marv de Sin City, o a Ben, de Full Throttle: Un matón sin sentimientos, muy rudo, pero relativamente buena gente.

» Lucciano Pavarotti fallece a los 71 años
Esta noticia ha exprimido mi corazón. Una de las pocas personas que realmente he admirado, no solo por su increíble voz, sino por su dedicación a causas humanitarias, y por haber tenido el coraje de cantar al lado de las Spice Girls :) y con muchos otros cantantes "tradicionales" (sin olvidarnos claro de los tres tenores), falleció hace unos momentos por una falla renal a causa de su muy mal estado de salud.
